Abstract

We developed a 20-minute lesson which uses national survey data to challenge pseudoscientific beliefs (e.g., that zodiac signs can predict divorce rates or happiness) and teach students important statistical concepts (e.g., statistical significance). Results showed significant improvements in these areas, and thus in critical thinking, after participating in the lesson.
