Abstract
Americans and East Asians completed a memory task, encoding abstract shapes. When asked to recognize old and new shapes, including 50% and 100% distortion lures, East Asians exhibited disproportionately poorer memory for the 50% distortion lures, suggesting that cultural differences in memory specificity extend to abstract images.
