Abstract
Discrepancy between one’s real and ideal self-concept can lead to depression. Whether this occurs across racial groups is unclear. Among 173 African American and 173 White American college students, we found a non-significant but small effect such that self-discrepancy and depression were more related in White Americans than African Americans.
