Abstract
Increases in stress over the semester predicted college students’ endorsement of alcohol as a coping mechanism. However, when students reported high levels of passion associated with grit, stress no longer predicted endorsement of alcohol. Students who consistently show passion for an activity are potentially able to find other coping mechanisms.
