More Human Than Humane: Stereotype Content Model Perceptions of the Mentally Ill

Participants indicated that society perceives mentally ill subgroups as low in warmth and competence, but suggested their personal attitudes were more positive, particularly if their declared major focused on human development and service. Results support prior work on the Stereotype Content Model and research on the better-than-average effect.
