The Role of Normative Information in Encouraging People to Drive Less: An Experiment

Abstract
The current research tested the extent to which normative information about owning cars influences people’s decisions on purchasing and using a car. Using incentive-compatible commuting simulation experiments, we found that there was an assimilation effect such that people’s decisions would be influenced towards the majority’s decisions.
