Leading More Utilitarian Choices and Less Emotional Arousal in Moral Dilemmas By Using Reappraisal and Distraction

Abstract

We examined the effects of emotion regulation in moral dilemmas. Results showed that participants in the reappraisal, distraction, or suppression group significantly reduced their subjective emotional arousal than the control group, but only participants in the reappraisal and distraction group significantly made more utilitarian choices than the control group.
