Cultural Socialization and Preparation for Bias Buffer the Impact of Racial Discrimination on Increases in Black Youths’ Depressive Symptoms

Abstract
This study found robust associations between perceived racial discrimination and increases in depressive symptoms in Black youth (ages 9 to 14), which were partially buffered by prospectively measured racial socialization from caregivers involving cultural pride or preparation for bias messages.
