Abstract

Research suggests that people utilize ambivalence as a self-protective mechanism under outcome uncertainty. In three experiments, we extended this finding into the realm of romantic relationship pursuit. We found partial support in only one study and future research should focus on maximizing outcome uncertainty and investigating alternative manipulations of ambivalence.
