Familial Transmission of Externalizing Problems: Testing the Mediating Role of Paternal Parenting Using a within-Family Design

This study examined whether father harshness mediated the relationship between fathers' history of conduct problems and child behavioral problems, using a multilevel within and between family design. Within families, children who received higher amounts of harshness from fathers relative to their siblings were at highest risk for externalizing problems.
