Character Background and Event Outcome Valence Affects Confabulation

Abstract

People are more likely to form false memories about missing scenes when their confabulations are part of a coherent narrative. In three experiments, we explored the effects of the central character’s background and story’s outcome on confabulation. Results revealed significant main effects of both background and outcome on confabulation valence.
