Abstract

Social baseline theory (Beckes & Coan, 2011) argues that relationship partner presence should improve working memory under conditions of threat. Participants completed an n-back test with threat and partner primes manipulated within-subjects. Results support the hypothesis that partner primes reduce cognitive load and improve working memory during threat.
