Abstract
Four independent studies tested the generalizability of the hopelessness theory of depression. Results showed that the distribution of cognitive vulnerability and depressive symptom scores in non-WEIRD samples (Honduras and Nepal) was similar to that found in WEIRD samples (US/Western Europe). However, the severity of scores and their correlation differed.
