Pain Impacts Subjective Difficulty and Effort during an Easy or Difficult Task

We investigated the impact of pain (vs. heat) on subjective difficulty and effort-related cardiovascular reactivity during an easy vs. difficult cognitive task. The results are in line with motivational intensity theory but we did not find the expected disengagement in the difficult task when participants received painful stimuli.
