Question Difficulty Can Impact Inconsistencies in Eyewitness Reports across Multiple Interviews

Abstract
Three experiments found that witnesses were less accurate, less confident, and more inconsistent following challenging questions about minute non-crime details. However, witnesses’ doubt didn’t spillover and cause more inconsistent responses for crime details. Thus witnesses can selectively maintain consistency across repeated interviews for details they remember more accurately and confidently.
