Abstract
In a tea party, 3.5-year-old children conformed more when a model’s choices were framed as norms (“we always use this”) rather than as preferences (“I feel like using this”) whether the model was an adult or a child. Children recognized and reacted differently to group-level norms versus personal preferences.
