Experimentwise Type I Error Control in 2 × 2 Designs

Previously proposed approaches to Type I error control in 2 × 2 designs either do not reliably control the experimentwise error rate or do not accommodate "simple-effect" tests (pairwise cell-mean comparisons). Here I propose, and evaluate by simulation, three approaches that control the experimentwise error rate while accommodating simple-effect tests.
