Abstract

Moral convergence intensifies hateful rhetoric in social media. We demonstrate that users' distance from the average of their network's moral language predicts their hate-speech posts in social media platforms (Gab and Reddit). Next, we replicate the effect of moral convergence on radicalism via two mediating mechanisms: power and identity fusion.
