Abstract
The present study examines 301 parents’ attitudes and beliefs about spanking. Results indicate that euphemisms for hitting (i.e., spanking) make parents feel better about doing it, parents perceive spanking as less serious than hitting, and that parents often hold double standards about hitting kids versus other people.
