The ability to effectively regulate one’s emotions is a key developmental milestone. Drawing on a mix of longitudinal and cross-sectional designs, this symposium highlights factors that shape emotion regulation from early childhood to older adulthood, including emotional competence, emotional understanding, perceived emotion regulation ability, and available resources (e.g., social, health).
