Abstract

We found a preference for violent activism in individuals high in sensation seeking (Study 1). This preference was explained by how exciting they perceived the activist group to be (Study 2). Study 3 tested an intervention: presenting an exciting but peaceful alternative lowered self-sacrifice, and hence, support for violence.
