Defendant-Culprit Matching: Fillers Reduce Incorrect Identifications

Abstract

During a trial, jurors may have to compare the defendant to video of the suspect and decide if they are the same person. We compared rates of false identifications between this procedure and an alternative: the filler control procedure. The filler control method reduced false identifications, potentially reducing erroneous convictions.
