Convention Basics

Where and when is the 2022 APS Annual Convention and APS-STP Teaching Institute?

The 2022 APS Annual Convention will take place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel, Chicago, Illinois, USA, from May 26-29, 2022. The APS-STP Teaching Institute, also taking place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel, will start Wednesday, May 25 with an evening workshop, and will continue all day Thursday, May 26.

A limited block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency Chicago will be available at an exclusive APS discounted rate. Stay tuned for complete details.

Why will the APS Convention be an in-person event, rather than virtual or hybrid?

APS decided to hold an in-person Convention based on the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic, including widely available vaccines, universities and schools returning to in-person instruction, and travel restrictions being lifted. APS will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the health and safety of our attendees.

What if the APS Convention is canceled in 2022?

APS plans to hold this meeting in person but reserves the right to cancel or reschedule this event or convert to a virtual event if government health and safety regulations necessitate doing so. If plans for the event change, we will update all registrants by email as well as on our website.

Health and Safety Protocols

Do I have to be vaccinated to attend?

APS requires that everyone who attends the 2022 Convention be fully vaccinated with one of the WHO-approved vaccines. Proof of vaccination will be verified by a third-party provider.

How will APS ensure my safety at the Convention?

The health and safety of our attendees is a top priority for APS. We will continue to monitor and adjust our plans, including mask mandates, according to recommendations made by experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, and Illinois state and local health officials.  We will provide additional information on COVID safety recommendations, including best practices, as we get closer to the Convention.

As of November 2021, these are the current requirements for in-person attendance in Chicago. These requirements will be updated as new guidelines are released by state and local authorities.

  • The city of Chicago requires the wearing of masks while indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status. Some businesses and events might ask for proof of vaccination. Your vaccine card, photo/photocopy of vaccination card, or other printout/photo of vaccine records with your name are some acceptable forms of proof. For the latest COVID-19 updates in Chicago, visit the Choose Chicago website, https://www.choosechicago.com/plan-your-trip/covid-19/
  • The Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel is required to follow state and local requirements and requests that fully vaccinated guests and colleagues wear face coverings in hotel indoor public areas, as designated by the CDC. Please read the health and safety information provided by Hyatt, https://www.hyatt.com/info/coronavirus-statement.
