What Is RiSE-UP?
RiSE-UP (Research on Socially and Economically Underrepresented Populations) is a
committee that works to enhance awareness of the need for research by and/or about
underrepresented populations.
All graduate and undergraduate student affiliates interested in research related
to underrepresented populations are welcomed to join RiSE-UP. Students who are from
underrepresented populations as well as students who conduct research related to
underrepresented populations are especially encouraged to become members of RiSE-UP.
In keeping with the mission of RiSE-UP, members work to assist, coordinate, advocate,
and recommend programs, policies, and research on issues related to underrepresented populations.
There are 6 sub-committees to RiSE-UP, and students are allowed to select which committee(s) they
would like to join. Throughout the year, members will participate in several RiSE-UP activities,
with their individual focus being determined by their sub-committee. The sub-committees are listed below.
- Aging
- Individuals with Disabilities
- Ethnic Minority
- Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered Individuals
- Women’s Issues
- Working Class Individuals
