University of Minnesota's Campbell Elected to APS Board of Directors
John P. Campbell has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Psychological Society. APS is the leading organization of academic psychologists in the United States devoted to scientific psychology. The Society has more than 13,000 members, publishes three highly regarded journals, and is recognized as a leading voice in Washington, DC, for psychological science.
Campbell is one of the nation's foremost researchers in the field of industrial/ organizational psychology. He is the principal scientist for Project A, a multimillion-dollar research project sponsored by the Army Researching Institutes. The group developed a highly sophisticated system for performance and productivity assessment that has grown beyond the realm of the army. They also developed new measures of job performance that led to findings that some aspects of performance are better predicted by personality measures rather than by ability measures. Campbell also served as the principal scientist for O*NET, a project which attempted to map out all of the knowledge and skill required for every job in the U.S economy.
Campbell is the psychology department chair at the University of Minnesota. He has published several books, chapters and journal articles relating to industrial/organizational psychology. He has also served as editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology and served on the editorial board of six other journals, of the book series Frontiers in Industrial/Organization Psychology and was associate editor of Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Campbell has also been recognized publicly on numerous occasions for his accomplishments including a 1991 Distinguished Scientific Award, presented by the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Also elected to the APS Board of Directors is Nancy Eisenberg, Arizona State University, and APS President-elect Robert W. Levenson, University of California, Berkeley.
The American Psychological Society's mission focuses on the advancement of research and science-based psychology in the public interest. For more information about APS, go online to www.psychologicalscience.org.
