Assistant Professor – Cognitive Psychology

The Psychology Department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Cognitive Psychology to begin August, 2014, subject to budgetary approval. We seek applicants in any area of cognition with a preference for candidates whose research can be related to student success, for example explorations of the contexts and conditions that support successful learning in subject-matter domains, including Science, Mathematics and Engineering; explorations of MOOCs, intelligent tutoring, social media and other cutting-edge technology-enhanced learning and delivery contexts; and explorations of conditions that support success in a wide range of students, including under-prepared college students, or that explore and seek to capitalize on the specialized cognitive profiles possessed by bilingual students. Current faculty research programs are linked through the theme of exploring complex cognition, which includes learning and conceptual change, problem solving, insight and creativity, mathematics and science learning, text and figurative language comprehension, metacomprehension, second language acquisition, the effects of individual differences in knowledge, abilities, bilingualism, and aging on cognitive processes, and issues related to assessment, instructional technology and curricular design. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses and research supervision. Candidates who can teach graduate statistics are especially welcomed. UIC is a research-intensive university and provides a rich environment for interdisciplinary research.
