Highly Interesting

The list of 243 psychologists and psychiatrists on the ISI “Highly Cited” list [Observer, March 2004] includes just eight names from among the approximately 57 living members, affiliates, and foreign associates of the psychology section of the National Academy of Sciences. For the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, there are four overlaps with the NAS and three new ones in the sections on neuroscience and social sciences. For what it may be worth, this suggests that the criteria for membership in these honorary organizations are not dominated by very high citation rates.
