A new iOS app that offers mobile access to all five APS journals is now available for free in the Apple iTunes Store under Journals@APS. Any user can access APS journal content that is free to the public, such as tables of contents, abstracts of current and previously published APS journal articles, and open access articles. APS members can take advantage of full-text downloads of individual articles and issues.
Once the app is downloaded, users can toggle between a screen view and a list view of APS’s journals: Psychological Science, Perspectives on Psychological Science, Psychological Science in the Public Interest, Current Directions in Psychological Science, and Clinical Psychological Science. After a journal is selected, a table of contents displays, and the user can choose to download individual articles or whole issues. Once an article is chosen, buttons on the bottom of the article page allow readers to search for words or terms in the text, to email a link to the article to themselves or a friend, and to bookmark the article under “Favorites.”
At the bottom of the table of contents screen for each journal, users can access their bookmarked “Favorites” and browse new, OnlineFirst articles. A “History” button also keeps a record of past articles a user has accessed. A “Links” button located on the table of contents page can be used to find information on the journal’s editorial board and to gain direct access to the APS organization website. Although the app itself only includes a 6-month archive of each journal, members can use the app to find a complete archive of online volumes by clicking the “Links” icon and selecting “Issue Archive.” This will display a full list of past issues posted online on a journal’s mobile site.
As an organization dedicated to the widespread dissemination of psychological scientific findings, APS hopes this new app will help members and others access and enjoy the journals more easily than ever before. Instructions for downloading the app and authenticating devices are available at www.psychologicalscience.org/voucher/get.
