Postdoctoral Researcher in Behavioral Science
Colchester, United Kingdom
University of Essex
10/07/13
Applications are invited for a 36-month full-time post-doctoral research position in behavioural science, working on a research project on personal relative deprivation (PRD) and consumer behaviour. The project investigators are Drs Mitchell Callan and William Matthews. The project is funded by The Leverhulme Trust, and will use a variety of experimental and correlational methods to examine: (a) the comparative processes and real-world situations that minimize and maximize PRD, (b) the psychological processes that give rise to status consumption, and (c) overt spending behaviours in the laboratory and in the field. The project will build on and extend the investigators’ recent research on this topic. Based in the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex (Colchester, UK), the post-doctoral researcher will be responsible for implementing and conducting research studies, and will contribute to the dissemination of findings from the project. Duties of the post will include programming computer-controlled experimental tasks; the recruitment of participants in the laboratory, online, and Colchester community; collection of data and the management and analysis of quantitative data.
Applicants must have completed an undergraduate or Masters degree and a PhD in psychology or another human behavioural science (or be very close to completion of this PhD). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in experimental and statistical methods, including the ability to program computer-controlled research tasks, and will have good insight into how these methods can be applied to investigate consumer behaviour. A high standard of written and spoken English is essential.
