Bioethics Post-doctoral Research Fellow.

Term: 3-year appointment in research track.

Job Description: Washington University School of Medicine’s (WUSM) Division of General Medical Sciences is seeking an individual who will engage in empirical research on ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI) related to health technologies, care and research. This person would support the Center for Clinical Research Ethics and the new ESLI lab of James DuBois, which currently focuses on mental health research ethics, responsible conduct of research, professionalism and integrity, and organ transplantation. New areas of interest include ELSI in HIV and genetic research and therapy.

WUSM provides an exciting research environment with numerous collaborative opportunities. The position may also afford the opportunity to deliver lectures to medical students, residents, and research trainees within the Clinical Research Training Center of the WUSM CTSA, which could provide some long-term salary support to supplement research funding. It is anticipated that the individual will also participate in the establishment of an Interdisciplinary Bioethics Network within the larger Washington University in St. Louis community.

Requirements: The position requires an individual with excellent skills in writing and conducting empirical social science research (e.g., social science experimental design or qualitative data analysis). PhD (or equivalent) required at time of appointment. Fields of particular interest include social, industrial-organizational, or cognitive psychology, medical anthropology, and sociology. Individual could be hired as a post-doctoral fellow, research instructor or research assistant professor.

Applicants who apply by November 1, 2013 will receive full consideration. Position could begin as soon as January 1, 2014. Please send electronically a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to James M. DuBois, DSc, PhD, Director of the Center for Clinical Research Ethics, at jdubois@wustl.edu.
