The War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC) at the Veterans Affairs-New Jersey Healthcare System is seeking applicants to our 2 year fellowship program in Clinical or Counseling Health Psychology. The fellow will join a behavioral medicine research laboratory which conducts research on Veterans’ views of their health conditions and is developing behavioral interventions to improve Veterans’ health function. Under the primary mentorship of Lisa McAndrew, Ph.D., the incumbent will have the opportunity to assist in the development of clinical interventions and run randomized controlled trials assessing the efficacy of these interventions. The laboratory is a dynamic and prolific environment. The fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing manuscript writing efforts and take the lead in developing their own manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals and grant submissions. In addition, our fellowship provides a number of educational opportunities including seminars in grant writing, publishing in high impact journals, statistics, giving an exciting scientific presentation, etc. Fellows may also choose to receive additional training in neuropsychology, health education, physiology, imaging, or exercise science. The WRIISC maintains a vibrant fellowship training program that provides the opportunity for motivated candidates to gain the skills and the research experience to become an independent investigator and/or a clinician able to conduct research. The WRIISC is a tertiary clinical research center just outside of New York City that specializes in helping Veterans with complex conditions and medically unexplained illness. The WRIISC uses an integrated and translational approach. Faculty at the WRIISC have expertise in clinical psychology, behavioral medicine, medically unexplained illness, diabetes, women’s health, exercise science, integrative physiology, neuropsychology, imaging and health services and also have appointments at our academic affiliate, Rutgers University. Applicants must have graduated from an APA accredited program and internship and be a US citizen.
