The Psychiatry Department at Stony Brook University seeks a full-time postdoctoral fellow to conduct clinical research with Drs. Adam Gonzalez, PhD, Evelyn Bromet, PhD, and Roman Kotov, PhD. This position is for up to 3 years and the start date is negotiable.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our research team and help direct randomized clinical trials conducted with responders to the World Trade Center (WTC) disaster who suffer from PTSD and comorbid respiratory symptoms. The first study examines the efficacy of a mind-body intervention for these comorbid health outcomes and the second trial evaluates a novel smoking cessation intervention. In addition to helping with these ongoing projects, the fellow will have full access to existing data on longitudinal associations among mental and physical illnesses in the WTC responder population. Our goals are to shed light on the mechanisms underlying the comorbidity of medical and psychiatric disorders and design better interventions that integrate physical and psychological components.

The postdoctoral fellow will primarily be responsible for aiding in the coordination of these studies, preparing manuscripts, and writing grants. The fellow will receive ongoing training in mind-body and CBT treatments, research methods, grantsmanship, and substantive questions related to PTSD, smoking, and co-morbid illnesses. Opportunities to work with patients (conducting diagnostic interviews and CBT/mind-body treatments) are also available.

Qualifications: a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, completion of an APA-approved internship, demonstrated knowledge of psychotherapy outcome research, as well as a minimum of one first-authored publication. Experience with research and/or treatments related to mind-body interventions and smoking behavior, and familiarity with diagnostic interviews are highly desired.

For questions, please contact Adam Gonzalez (adam.gonzalez@stonybrook.edu). To apply, please email a cover letter, your CV and contact information of three references. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
