Fuller Seminary, Graduate School of Psychology invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in the Thrive Center for Human Development. The post-holder will take a leadership position in research and administration of a major research initiative on “The Science of Intellectual Humility,” funded by the John Templeton Foundation. This three-year, temporary position begins May 1, 2012.

Essential Functions:

Under the supervision of Justin Barrett the Director of Drive Center & Faculty for SOP:

• Provide intellectual and administrative leadership in executing a $4 million grant competition, including assistance in revising and publicizing a request for proposals, and coordinating the award selection process

• Conduct a two-year research project in the area of Intellectual Humility related to child and/or adolescent development (specific topic to be left open to the successful applicant in negotiation with Dr. Barrett). This project should produce at least one refereed journal article and two conference presentations. This project may be supported by a doctoral student assistant

• Write a literature review of existing psychological research relevant to Intellectual Humility, to be provided to award competition semi-finalists to assist in more broadly contextualizing their projects. This literature review will also serve as preliminary material for a volume that the post-holder will co-author

• Take a lead role in organizing and executing web-based workshops and two conferences

• Produce an ‘agenda-setting’ review article for a journal such as American Psychologist or Perspectives in Psychological Science, drawing upon the previously prepared lit-review

• Write a popular article on developing intellectual humility

• Co-edit a special journal issue comprising grant competition awardees’ findings

• Co-author a volume summarizing findings from her/his own research and that of the awardees

• Assist with every aspect of the project as needed

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

• Qualified applicants will have a doctorate with research experience in a relevant area of psychology (e.g., developmental, evolutionary, personality, developmental). Some expertise in philosophy or theology related to intellectual virtues, specifically intellectual humility, is desirable
