Postdoctoral Fellow Position

The Embodied Games for Learning Lab at the Learning Sciences Institute at

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

The Embodied Games for Learning (EGL) Lab (http://egl.lsi.asu.edu/) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in our laboratory that specializes in gesture-based learning of STEM content and the creation of innovative multimedia. The successful applicant will help collect data for a lab-based study analyzing the effects of game narrative and amount of embodiment on retention of physics content. However, new studies with novel gesture-driven (mo-cap) hardware are being designed all the time and we would welcome an extremely creative and independent thinker who would create her/his own studies. The candidate needs to also run several classroom studies. You would thus be conducting both lab and classroom studies, the latter will take place in several area high schools. At the lab we have professional game designers and graphic artists, so experience creating and analyzing games for learning is a plus. You will be expected to complete studies in a timely manner and be a leader in terms of manuscript preparation and knowledge dissemination at conferences.

Qualifications: Must have earned (or be months away) from a Ph.D. degree in either: a relevant psychology area, the learning sciences, education, or educational technology fields. The candidate must have a strong background in quantitative and experimental methodology and a solid record of refereed publications. The candidate must have pleasant interpersonal skills and experience working with 4th -12th grade schools. Must be able to work independently but also be a contributing member to a highly collaborative team.

Target start date: August 1, 2014 (this is negotiable).

Salary: $45K annually.

Please submit a CV, statement of research interests, and three letters of reference to Dr. Mina C. Johnson-Glenberg at mina.johnson@asu.edu.
