Applications are sought for a one-year post doctoral scholar position working under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Cook within the Department of Psychology at Penn State University. The position will involve preparing competitive grant submissions and manuscripts for submission, analyzing data, designing and implementing new studies to complement and expand existing research in the lab, and advising and coordinating ongoing projects.
The focus of the lab’s research is understanding and reducing the effects of social stigma and social identity threat in groups who differ by race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and/or health status. Our research includes both correlational and experimental studies in the lab and field. Start date is flexible. Extension of position for more than one year is possible pending the acquisition of additional grant funding.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD in social psychology or a related field and are expected to have an established ability (or promise) to write successful grant applications and manuscripts. Desired qualifications include one or more of the following: strong quantitative abilities; research experience that includes a focus on intergroup dynamics, particularly research understanding the effects of being a target of stigma; experience conducting research using hormonal, immune system, and/or cardiovascular indicators; methodological experience that includes intensive longitudinal designs; and programming experience. The successful applicant will be highly motivated and a “big thinker” while remaining extremely attentive to detail.
