POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN NEUROSCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SÃO PAULO (BRAZIL)

One position is offered by Dr. Marcus Lira Brandão at University of São Paulo, Department of Psychology-FFCLRP located in the city of Ribeirão Preto, to conduct FAPESP-funded research examining neurobiological mechanisms in the brain aversion system that are possibly altered in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). For such approaches will be employed behavioral, pharmacological, and immunohistochemical techniques in the study of fear conditioning and analysis of sensorimotor gating in OCD animal models. The research will be conducted at the Laboratory of Neurosychophamacology (http://www.psicobio.com.br). For this position, applicants must have a PhD in psychobiology or neuroscience. Ribeirão Preto is a medium-sized city in the state of São Paulo with a competitive cost of living. The other four positions are offered by Dr. Euripedes C. Miguel, Dr.Helena P. Brentani, Dr. Guilherme V. Polanczyk and Dr. Roseli G. Shavitt at the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of São Paulo located in São Paulo city –IPQ-HCFMUSP (http://www.ipqhc.org.br/) to conduct FAPESP-funded clinical research examining neurobiological mechanisms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) with bases in the following research domains (one position is offered for each domain): (1) neurosurgical treatment of OCD, (2) development of instruments for virtual reality data analyses, (3) evaluation of deep EEG during neurosurgical procedures, (4) measures of gene expression in peripheral blood. Applicants must have a PhD in psychiatry or neurosurgery for domains (1) and (3); applied mathematics/physics for neuroscience for domain (2); and genetics for domain (4). All applicants must also be highly motivated to participate in a multidisciplinary research program, present research findings at domestic and international meetings, and publish. São Paulo is Brazil’s biggest city and financial center with expensive living costs. University of São Paulo is a highly competitive research center in Brazil.
The position is immediately available, initially for 2 years and possible to extend for additional years.
