The San Francisco VAMC is recruiting for a two-year Post-Doctoral Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Health Research and Treatment with a focus on PTSD and/or dementia. The Fellowship is associated with the Sierra Pacific MIRECC (VISN 21) and affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco.
The Fellowship is funded by the Office of Academic Affiliations, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which sponsors 25 fellowship positions, one for each of 25 sites nationwide, which begin between July 1 and October 1, 2013. Each Fellowship site is part of a MIRECC (Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center), COE (Center of Excellence), NCPTSD (National Center for PTSD) Division, SMITREC (Serious Mental Illness Treatment Research and Evaluation Center), or CESATE (Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education) and each is affiliated with an academic institution. This interdisciplinary program aims to train psychologists to become outstanding clinical researchers in high priority areas of mental health. Individualized, mentored research and clinical training is combined with a state-of-the-art curriculum that emphasizes research methods, statistics, epidemiology, mental health systems, quality improvement methods, education, and service delivery. Fellowship sites are linked electronically for didactic, academic, and research efforts. Fellows devote the majority of their time to patient oriented research and education activities and 25% to direct patient clinical care. In collaboration with their mentors, Fellows will develop and implement a research project, publish and present findings, participate in grant writing, and utilize the latest technology for educational activities and clinical service delivery. Fellows must have obtained a doctorate from an APA-accredited program in clinical or counseling psychology and completed an APA-accredited internship in clinical or counseling psychology. Fellows must be U.S. citizens. The VA funds each Fellow’s stipend beginning at $42,239 per year, with yearly increases.
