Posting Summary

This appointment is funded by the Rehabilitation Center. Supervisors will be arranged by the Director of Health Psychology and/or the Director of Post Doctoral Training in Health Psychology. The Health Psychology Service is staffed by full time licensed doctoral level (National Register eligible) psychologists, two APA Health Psychology interns and three post doctoral fellows in Health Psychology.

The Incumbent will provide psychological services to pediatric patients and their families in the American Family Children¿s Hospital, assist with program development and provide consultation to staff. The majority of clinical services will be provided to inpatients of the American Family Children¿s Hospital and their families. Some outpatient clinical care is also possible. The Pediatric Health Psychology Fellow will also provide training about psychological principles to staff from a variety of other professional disciplines.

The fellowship emphasizes a broad-based approach to psychological treatment modalities including: short-and longer-term psychotherapy; group and family therapy, parent consultation and guidance and general assessment and consultation applicable to a wide variety of pediatric client populations. The theoretical and therapeutic orientations of the Health Psychology training staff are quite varied and include cognitive, behavioral, developmental, interpersonal, psychodynamic and systems approaches. There is a strong multi- and inter- disciplinary team emphasis on practice and training. The fellowship may involve research and/or program development opportunities.

The Pediatric Health Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow will need to work well with the interdisciplinary team and demonstrate independence and flexibility. Previous training and experience in pediatric health psychology is required. The Pediatric Health Psychology Fellow is responsible for establishing a consultative role with treatment teams and assisting in the development of protocols relating to outcome evaluation and treatment planning.

Qualifications

1. Ph.D or Psy.D or eligibility for Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA approved program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology required. 2. Completion of a pre-doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology from an APPIC approved program with specialty training in pediatric health psychology required. 3. Preferred completion of an APA approved Clinical Psychology Internship with specialization in pediatric psychology. 4. Eligibility for Licensure in the State of Wisconsin within several months of completion of Post Doctoral Fellowship required. 5. Proven ability to conduct individual, group, family and couples psychotherapy. 6. Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively: a. With diverse populations-patients and families b. Across the developmental and multicultural spectrum c. With professionals from a variety of disciplines d. Pediatric psychological assessment skills including personality, cognitive, and emotional functioning. 7. Ability to design, conduct and evaluate research and familiarity with research in the area of pediatric (health) psychology. 8. Ability to function independently as appropriate for level of training with at least a moderate degree of responsibility. 9. Training and proven ability to act ethically according to professional code of conduct for psychologists. 10. Physical Requirements: Light - Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
