Postdoc Description
A postdoctoral position in clinical psychology and developmental psychopathology is available through the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Human Development and Family Studies Department. The HDFS Department is a doctoral level program within the School of Health and Human Sciences at UNCG. The graduate level programs emphasize scientific research, scholarship, and practice. The faculty is active in teaching and research.Susan Calkins has received a five-year extension grant from NIMH entitled †Developmental trajectories of early behavior problems† that is already funded.

The mission of the project is to study the development of young children in their family and school environments over the course of early and middle childhood as well as adolescence. This grant will continue to follow 3 cohorts of high risk male and female children (n=400) who have been assessed in multiple contexts, using multiple levels of analysis at ages 2, 4, 5, 7, and 10. In this follow-up, we will examine developmental processes associated with psychopathology in adolescence from ages 15 and 17 years of age. Children will be assessed within the home, school, and laboratory environments.

This project is being conducted with collaborators from the Department of Psychology (Dr. Susan Keane and Dr. Lilly Shanahan) and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies (Dr. Susan Calkins and Dr.

Marion O†Brien). Each of the four collaborators will be conducting a piece of the research. The position Dr. Calkins seeks to fill is for a Postdoctoral Fellow to assist with the coordination and integration of the clinically related research activities and protocols.The individual hired for this clinical-oriented position will supervise staff (undergraduate and graduate students working on the project engaged in clinically related administrative and research tasks).

The person will be expected to participate in data collection during the project, conduct achievement visits, review achievement reports, and will be in charge of overseeing family follow-ups for all laboratory visits where participants indicate behaviors suggesting clinical risk. The minimum qualifications include: 1) A Ph.D. in clinical psychology preferably licensed or 2) MA in clinical psychology, applicants at the master†s level must be licensed and HSP-PA certified, 3) background in clinical child/adolescent psychology, 4) conduct assessments of academic achievement and write-ups, 5) conduct diagnostic interviews and follow ups. Opportunities for research will be available but the individual hired will be primarily needed for his/her clinical expertise.
