Late-Life Anxiety

Position Description:
? The postdoctoral fellow will participate in two ongoing programs of late-life anxiety research, one addressing the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in older, primary care patients and the other investigating the value of integrating religion/spirituality into CBT for improving reach and outcomes for people with anxiety in underserved communities. Responsibilities in these two projects will include community networking and participant recruitment, protocol-based clinical care, protocol oversight, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.
Supervision and Learning Opportunities
? The fellow will collaborate with and receive supervision from an interdisciplinary team with representatives from psychology, geropsychiatry, social work, and biostatistics. Opportunities for learning about diverse populations and settings of care are available through community partner organizations and primary care clinics at both BCM and MEDVAMC. The fellow and interdisciplinary team are housed in the Houston Health Service Research Center of Excellence with weekly seminars addressing research in progress, professional development, and health services research.
Qualifications and Prior Experiences:
? Ph.D. in clinical psychology
? Completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship
? Experience in the assessment and treatment of anxiety
? Experience with older adults
? Evidence of research productivity
Start date:
? July 1, 2011 preferred, but negotiable
? One year appointment
