Obama, Romney debate: Mom and Dad settle whom you support

The way you were brought up could determine whether you were rooting for Romney or Obama last night.

An analysis of the parenting styles and political attitudes of 1,364 U.S. families found that “parents’ attitudes predicted their children’s political orientations at age 18.”

Which means, study author Dr. R. Chris Fraley told the Star, that it’s possible to trace some political attitudes to the first five years of life — “long before people begin to rationally consider issues that are relevant to political debate.”

Fraley, a psychology professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and colleagues used data gleaned from two National Institute of Child Health and Human Development studies 18 years apart.
