Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Association for Psychological Science has just launched a new website for our online community. We are also excited to announce the first APS Film Festival! We would like to encourage all members and nonmembers to submit a short video or film (online) focusing on an area of psychological science.
What is the 2011 APS Film Festival?
The 2011 APS Film Festival is a forum to which anyone can submit a film that promotes and advances psychological science research, application, or teaching. The festival will be held in conjunction with the APS 23rd Annual Convention in Washington, DC (May 25-29, 2011) and selected films will be screened at the Convention and featured on the APS website.
Does my entry have to be a professional film?
Not at all! You can use any multimedia you wish in your film, work alone or in a group, and enlist help from university departments other than your own. No prior film-making experience is necessary. However, we do ask that:
- All films be between thirty seconds and five minutes in length.
- All film submissions be uploaded to YouTube as a response to the 2011 APS Film Festival.
- Collaborations have one lead creator.
- Foreign-language submissions include subtitles.
What should my film be about?
You can choose from a wide variety of psychological science topics. However,
- All films should be based in scientific theory (scientific content will be considered when selecting pieces to showcase).
- Be as creative as you like with the presentation (except with the accuracy of the science)!
More details and ideas on what to show in your video can be found on the Film Festival Call for Submissions, and we’ve provided a collection of sample videos to serve as inspiration.
Am I allowed to submit multiple films?
Yes! We welcome multiple submissions.
What is the deadline for submitting an entry for the APS film fest?
You can submit your entry at any time. However, please submit films before February 15, 2011 if you want to be considered for showing at the APS Annual Convention.
How do I submit my film?
Just fill out the entry form and post your completed video on YouTube in 3 easy steps. Once you submit a video, APS can advertise and promote entries online, at the convention, and in other media forms. (Don’t forget, we expect that films posted on YouTube will follow all of YouTube’s Terms and Conditions.)
What’s in it for me?
Videos will be showcased on the APS website, and selected films will be screened at the APS annual Convention as well as in the Observer online. And who knows, once you have submitted a film, fame and fortune may follow!
