Call for Submissions

What is the Call for Submissions?

The Call for Submissions is APS’s request for proposals of completed research to be presented as posters and symposia at the APS Convention. Poster submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis by the Program Committee. Symposia submissions are reviewed in December and notifications will be sent at that time.

When does the Call for Submissions open and close?

The Call for Submissions opens in October. There are different deadlines for symposia and posters. Symposium submissions are accepted through December 1, 2016, 11:59 PM (latest time on earth). Poster submissions are accepted through January 31, 2017, 11:59 PM (latest time on earth).

Can I submit my proposal via fax or mail?

No, APS only accepts submissions via the APS Online Call for Submissions.

What if I’m not a Member of APS – can I still submit a proposal for the Convention?

Anyone can submit a proposal for consideration; if accepted, the first author, whether or not s/he is attending the Convention, must be an APS Member or Student Affiliate in good standing at the time of the Convention. All participants at the APS Annual Convention must pay the registration fee to present or attend the Convention (please note that registration is deeply discounted for APS Members). Co-authors are not required to be APS Members (although we can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want to be…).

How much time do I have for my presentation?

Symposia are 80 minutes, inclusive of discussion among presenters and the audience. Posters are scheduled within 50-minute poster sessions. Poster presenters may set up their poster before the session begins during the posted setup times. If your poster proposal is accepted, the scheduling notice you receive will include the time for both the poster session and setup.

Where can I find more information about the Call for Submissions?

The Rules and Guidelines provide further details on the Call for Submissions process and proposal requirements.
