This workshop will demystify the research grant process from application to the management of your first grant. Topics to be covered include: identifying public and private funding sources, writing applications, and managing research grants. Participants will have an opportunity to draft and get feedback on their ideas for research funding. Experts from academia and the federal government will discuss "tricks of the trade," the reviewers’ role, and building a soft-money research program, as well as provide feedback and consultation to attendees.

After a general presentation, break-out groups will form with representatives from various federal agencies and extramural scientists who do research/clinical work in these fields. The break-out groups will be formed with the following research areas:
- Clinical and health science
- Neuroscience
- Basic behavioral and social science
- Developmental science

This workshop is co-sponsored by the APS Student Caucus.
