Participants played the prisoner’s dilemma game, received false feedback regarding their matrix choices (competitive or cooperative), and reported how much self-respect and self-compassion they felt. Other participants forecasted how they would have felt. Cooperation felt better than forecasted, whereas competition felt worse than forecasted.
