Adult romantic attachment was measured across 56 nations. Attachment insecurity varied in evolutionary-predictable ways across cultures, with higher insecurity evident in high-fertility reproductive environments. Contrary to previous results from Western cultures, men were not universally more dismissing than women. Instead, sex differences were small to negligible in high-stress ecological conditions.
