This research examined perceptions of the appropriateness and effectiveness of romantic pursuit as a function of gender and relationship status (e.g., between casual acquaintances, long-standing friends, or after dissolution). Results revealed that participants perceived certain pursuit behaviors to be most appropriate/effective when the target/pursuer had a long-standing, but platonic, relationship.
