Sucrose Effects on Morphine-Induced Antinociception Not Mediated Through Activational Gonadal Hormones

To determine the role of gonadal hormones on pain sensitivity and morphine-induced antinociception in animals fed sucrose, rats were gonadectomized or received sham operations and then tested for antinociception following morphine administration. Responses did not vary as a function of sex or hormonal status. However, chronic sucrose increased morphine-induced antinociception
