We tested if plagiarism would decrease if instructions not to plagiarize emphasized injunctive norms with a positive tone. Students’ assignments in our study contained substantial rates of plagiarism. However, plagiarism did not differ significantly across conditions. Using injunctive norms and positive framing is not an effective strategy to reduce plagiarism.
