Electronic diaries and questionnaires assessed emotional awareness in borderline personality disorder (BPD) and healthy control participants. Frequencies and functions of impulsive behaviors were also assessed in the diary. Compared to healthy controls, BPD participants showed lower emotional awareness, engaged in more impulsive activities, and reported mood regulatory motives for these behaviors.
